Worthington High School (now Thomas Worthington HS) fielded the state’s first girls lacrosse team in 1974.  Nine years later, Upper Arlington HS became the fourth team and in 1988, Columbus School for Girls was the seventh. The swell of popularity in Ohio girls lacrosse began in 1992 and the Ohio Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association (OSLA) was born and hosted the first state-wide tournament in 2000. OSLA association was the governing body for girls high school lacrosse. Ernie Hartong was the commissioner during the growth years and approximately 2014 Paul Balcerzak become the Girls and Boys Commissioner. On June 4, 2015; The Ohio High School Athletic Association approved that boys and girls lacrosse will become sport sponsored by the OHSAA starting the 2017 season.
